Buried in Art

A photo journey of this morning's winter wonderland ... our home transformed by six inches of snow ...

You can see just softened bumps where the steps usually are ...
The steps leading to the picnic area ...
And the picnic area itself ...
Loaded with snow ...
The parking area and back yard ...
Behind the shed ...
A very tall pine tree ...
A spot of color ...
A desperate branch ...
A covered log ...
Graceful weeds ...
My footsteps ...
And my feet "stuffed" inside my husband's size 13 boots!

Just wanted to share a glimpse of the beauty we're enjoying. :o) Sledding and general snowy adventure pictures are forthcoming ...

Together Time

We were so glad to be able to enjoy the blessing of an entire week's vacation between Christmas and New Year's. And even better ... G&G M were able to come down and join us for it! :o)

We kept things low-key, and just really enjoyed being together and puttering on various small projects (including a brake job on Grandma's car and fixing the heater on Chris' truck.) :o)

Matthew loves his new quilt from Great Grandma! He likes pulling at the ribbons on the kite--thanks Grandma! And Hannah was blessed with a special jacket that Jenny's Aunt Ann made for her cousin Jessica when she was little. Thank you to you both!
So what else did we enjoy?
Playing checkers ...
Sawing cardboard ...
Big baby smiles ...
Puzzles and dominoes ...
New books ...
Thumb print art ... (very cool, highly recommended book, by the way!)
Flying the helicopter ...
Snuggling in new jammies ...
Hanging out with Toby ...
Building a dog house for Toby ...
And washing windows ... (gotta love it when such things are fun!)
Ahhh.
It was nice to slow the pace down for a while.
:::
We love you, G&G, and were very glad to have you here to enjoy vacation with us (even if we're low on pictures of you ...) ;o)

Reconnecting

What a blessing it was to reconnect with some dear friends last month! Jon and Crystal were in town to visit family, and we were able to squeeze in a delightful evening of fellowship after our church's Christmas cantata. :o)

What a noisy, fun evening we enjoyed! The kids all thoroughly enjoyed playing together, and activities ranged from dressing up as kings and queens and dragons (and who knows what else!) to rides on various and sundry objects--including blankets and trucks. :o)

Even Toby got in on the action (whether she wanted to or not ...) ;o) How good it was to sit and talk! (We won't mention that our dear husbands indulged us till after 11pm, with five children ALL still up and running around!)

What a wonderful, blessed evening of encouragement.

Thank you, friends!

Fun Highlights

Christmas morning involved a bit of intrigue as the kids' gifts had no names, only numbers ... 12, 14, and 22 to be precise. Now THAT made for some interesting conversations. :o)

When Hannah and Peter discovered two identically sized (apparently matching) gifts with the numbers 12 and 22, they decided that Matthew's number must be 14. And with some helpful reminders of Matthew's monthly photo shoot on the 14th of every month, it was finally determined that 22 did not belong to Hannah as the oldest, but to Peter since his birthday is on the 22nd and Hannah's is the 12th ...
After getting dressed for the day, we enjoyed our traditional Christmas breakfast of Family Favorite French Toast, table gifts, and reading the Christmas story,
Followed by much unwrapping ... :o)
We enjoyed the blessing of various books and games and puzzles, but what do you do when the one and only gift your 3-year-old wants is a remote control helicopter cited for ages 14+?
It becomes a "Daddy-Peter" gift. :o)
He can't fly it, but he's had LOTS of fun watching Daddy fly it. :o)
And then, what happens when you give a doggy a bone?
He buries it. Promptly.
And would you believe it? We enjoyed a white Christmas in sunny SC!! :o)
And that's a (very) brief glimpse of Christmas at our house ...

O Christmas Tree

So where do you begin when you are very far behind in blogging, and you have a large backlog of photos and mental posts from a holiday that is now weeks past?

Well, I'm not sure where you'd begin, but I'm going to begin at the beginning. (It's a very good place to start.) ;o)

So, yes, I realize that your Christmas tree is probably gone and the ornaments boxed away till next year, but please indulge me as I catch up a bit ...

:::
Have you ever been disappointed by something you purchased? Not just a little bit, but a lot?

That's what happened to me last year. Having begun our marriage in a very small apartment, we purchased a 3-foot Christmas tree for $7 from Family Dollar to celebrate our first Christmas. That tiny tree stayed with us through five Christmases, even after we moved to a house! However, at the end of our fourth Christmas, I found a great deal on a nice, big tree in the after-Christmas clearance sales ($11 ... yes, I'm a big spender in this department ...)

I was very excited! We were traveling the following Christmas, so we decided to just use our small one again, but last year, we finally got to unbox and use our new, big tree.

It was nothing like what was pictured on the box.

What was pictured as a beautiful, tall, full tree was short, sparse, and very fake. I nearly cried every time I looked at it. Once we put on lights and ornaments, the sparseness wasn't quite so noticeable, and it even looked kind of pretty, but it simply was not what I had expected. at. all. And it was not particularly fun to decorate.
The very vivid memories of my utter disappointment last year, made this year all the more special. For after Christmas last year, the Lord provided an opportunity to purchase at a reasonable price what truly was a beautiful tree. And it was a delight to decorate. It was pretty even without ornaments. I nearly cried again this year ... except this year it was thankfulness for the joy and blessing of a beautiful tree.
We actually enjoyed it with just a few pretty bulbs for a couple of weeks, but we finally pulled out the rest of our ornaments the week before Christmas.

The kids loved helping me decorate and they spent lots of time examining all of the ornmanents!
Thank you, Lord!

Along with our tree, we also enjoyed having a wreath and lights around the front door.

AND ...
My hubby installed the boards allowing me to display our Christmas village above the cabinets. :o) It's nice to have it out again! :o)
And while we're on the subject of decorations, let it be known that nearly two years after moving in, we finally have pictures on our living room walls! :o) Yes. I am very excited about that, too. :o)
And here's my cuties on Christmas Eve ...
So, anyway, thanks for indulging me.
I really wanted to share the blessing of my Christmas tree. :o) The Lord truly does care about even things as mundane as Christmas trees.
