A Spring Picnic

"Mommy, can we have a picnic for dinner tonight?"

I love it when fun, creative ideas are easy to implement! :o) This one was especially easy since the kids carried everything outside and set it all up! :o)

Gotta love that face! :o)
(And yes, we were carefully supervising the hot dog consumption!)
Of course our picnic was followed by play time! :o) What a joy it's been to watch Hannah develop both physically and spiritually this spring . . .
And Peter's our sweety who regularly cracks us up! :o)
He hasn't quite figured out how to balance on a "big" swing yet . . .
So he had fun riding with Daddy . . .
And Mommy took a garden tour after a bit . . .
What a blessing it is to enjoy spring! :o)

A Blessed Mommy!

Mommy is SO thankful for her kiddos! They have been such a blessing to me. They've taken my much slower pace right in stride, and they've been super sweet with helping out with just about anything asked--switching loads of laundry and sweeping up dust piles being some key things that are rather difficult for Mommy to accomplish these days and they have become quite adept at. :o) They've also been great at entertaining themselves or playing low-key games in the afternoons . . .

Like Go Fish . . .
Or Lego Trains . . .
Woo-hoo!
Or Dress Up . . .

Yes. It was a hug! :o)

And even as I brag on my kiddos, I can't forget my hubby. Some days there's simply more day left at the end of the energy, and he's been wonderful at picking up where I have to leave off. Thanks, honey! We get to meet our littlest one very soon now!

The First Flight of a New Decade

You can only imagine how excited the kids were (especially Peter!) when they saw the plane get loaded in the van for the first flight of the year! :o) Last Friday we decided to take advantage of an absolutely beautiful evening and find ourselves a flying location.

Unfortunately, the short-notice of our outing didn't provide enough time on the battery charger, so we actually weren't able to fly the plane that evening. We did enjoy a beautiful sunset though.

And we came back for a second go at it on Saturday with great success! :o)
Where's the plane?

A Lion Hunt!

Oh, how we have enjoyed the beautiful spring weather!!

One of our favorite things at the moment are the daffodils which are in full bloom. The kids get so excited every time they see one and love to pick them! :o) We've had a small bouquet on our table for about a week now, but many more have opened up in the last few days, so we went on a "lion hunt" today.

We have large bunches of them blooming by the creek, and even though we picked lots, you hardly even notice they're missing because we left about half in each clump for people driving by to enjoy. The bright sunshine wasn't the best for taking pictures, but here's a few from our adventure . . . :o)

Peter took his responsibility of carrying the flower jug quite seriously. :o)

Awww! :o) Them's my munchkins!
And the fruit of our labors--a beautiful bouquet that smells as lovely as it looks!

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:
but the Word of our God shall stand forever.
Isaiah 40:8

35 Weeks . . .

Just five weeks to go!

Praise the Lord! As of tomorrow, we'll be at 35 weeks . . . just 2 more weeks to go to be considered full term. :o) The Lord has blessed with a little more energy this week than I've had the last few weeks, and I've gotten a little extra done (things like taxes, washing baby clothes . . . ) Much of that energy has been due to few less contractions than usual during the afternoons.

For those who are interested, I learned today that there's actually a name for the symptoms I've experienced with all three pregnancies. It's called Irritable Uterus and basically means I have a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions. With this pregnancy, they were noticeable from about week 12, and have been much more intense since week 30. This last week I've had a few afternoons with only 2-3 an hour rather than 6-10 (or more) as per usual, and I've enjoyed the blessing of a bit more energy as a result. They generally pick back up again in the evenings, but the Lord continues to give strength for each day, hour by hour.

At this stage of the pregnancy, one of the more difficult challenges is discerning when to go to the hospital, because the standard information (count how many contractions you're having, how long they last, etc.) just really isn't much help. Along with praying for a safe and healthy delivery, we'd appreciate your prayers that the Lord will show us very clearly when that time comes.

Waiting for His perfect time . . .

Please pray . . . (updated)

We would greatly appreciate your prayers for Jenny's Grandma. She fell Sunday morning and broke both her hip and her wrist. She's having surgery to put pins in her hip today and will be in recovery/rehab over the course of the next week or so. They'll be putting a cast on her wrist once the swelling goes down. Please pray for a full and complete recovery! We're so thankful she and Great Grandpa were able to come down this past fall and hope they'll have another opportunity to do so!

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
and they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Update: Great Grandma is slowly recovering from her surgery, although she's still quite sore. She'll be at a rehabilitation center for about two weeks. Thank you for praying!

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

We love you and hope you have an absolutely wonderful day celebrating yet another year of youth! :o)

Catching Up

I blinked! That's it . . . I promise! All I did was blink and it's been nearly two weeks since I posted! How does that happen?!?!

Sorry folks (particularly grandparents!) Mommy's been busy growing a baby and there's just not much energy left for blogging at the end of a day. :o) It hardly seems possible, but we're at 34 weeks and counting . . . We'd appreciate your praying with us for at least four more weeks. We don't want this little guy getting too anxious to meet the brother and sister who have been giving him hugs and kisses for the last 8 months! :o)

We are making preparations though. We've brought up the baby's dresser and cradle and rearranged furniture in our bedroom to accomodate them. Still looking for the crib sheet. We've been blessed with a carseat (our other one was too old to still be considered safe.) We have located the Boys 0-3 month clothing bin and noted the necessity of washing the clothing. It's still sitting next to the washing machine. Mommy's budgeting her energies very carefully these days. :o) And, the Lord has been teaching Mommy flexiblity . . . we know not what a day may bring forth!

So what have we been doing in the last couple weeks?

:::
We enjoyed watching big fat snowflakes swirling in our third "snow storm" of the year!
:::
And we've thoroughly enjoyed the earliest signs of spring!!
The kids and I enjoyed 70 degree weather earlier this week as we cleaned the leaves out of a few of our flower beds. :o) The kids were BIG helpers, bringing tools and such as Mommy asked for them and diligently watering all of the flowers poking up from the dirt. (It's easier to see those when they're not buried under 3 inches of leaves!)
I was especially blessed by Peter one afternoon as I was trimming some branches on a small pine tree near our driveway. He pointed out that I needed to trim the top branches as well, and I told him that Mommy was too short and needed the stool to do that. He immediately dropped the coveted shovel he was holding, dashed up the steps to the swing tree where the stool was stowed, and came scurrying back with it--without Mommy ever once even suggesting that he go get it for me. :o)

:::
Hannah thoroughly enjoyed Clown Day at school! :o) We were so glad to be able to borrow a clown costume from some friends who've been through this a few times before. :o)

Just as a side note, Hannah's been making up words recently . . . anytime you ask her what they mean, she'll tell you, "It's a nickname for a tree."

:::
Peter's outside any chance he can get. :o)
:::
Last weekend Daddy had an ALL-nighter at work, about 9:00 pm till noon. The kids decided they wanted to eat breakfast in bed since Daddy wasn't home. Mommy obliged. :o) I certainly couldn't complain--they fixed it themselves!
:::
Hannah and Mommy had fun playing with quilted "paper" dolls.
:::
The kids thoroughly enjoyed jumping on the bubble wrap from the package from Uncle Pat and Aunt Judy! (And they're quite excited about their new named coat hooks! Thanks, Uncle Pat!)
:::
Ever creative with our play . . .
:::
ROAR!
:::
Still coloring! (Mommy's learning (or rather attempting to learn!) patience with the abundance of papers my budding artist/clutter bug tends to generate!)
:::
Peter's thoroughly enjoying his new take-apart airplane. (a backordered Christmas gift . . . Thanks, Great G&G!)
:::
AND Daddy launched the new computer!!! Yes, the one that's been sitting under our desk depreciating for at least two months!!!!
So, that's about it.
Daddy's been working hard to get a better handle on some different responsiblities and implementing some scheduling/planning methods to allow him to be more proactive rather than reactive. He's been enouraged to see some good progress there.
Mommy's still attempting to do some couponing. I'm very grateful to my friend Jen who inspired me to try CVS again. Over the course of four weeks, I've gotten $117 worth of merchandise for $15! The planning is getting easier, which makes it a good bit more fun. :o)
Otherwise, we're just trying to get a few various and sundry things finished up before our littlest one makes his appearance.

Best Publix Trip Yet . . .

The following items retail for $52.83 at our local Publix. They include:
  • Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix, 2 boxes
  • Green Giant corn (niblets/creamed), 6 cans
  • Ragu spaghetti sauce, 2 jars
  • Knorr Rice Sides, 2 packages
  • Muir Glenn Organic Tomatoes (crushed/diced), 3 cans
  • Muir Glenn Organic Tomato Sauce, 3 cans
  • Uncle Ben's Ready Rice, 2 packages
  • Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers (frozen veggies), 8 packages

Guess how much I paid? :o)

$8.47!!!
An average of .30 per item and 84% savings!

I can only say, "Praise the Lord!!" :o)
Here's the details since I have a hard time believing that number and I did it, . . .
  • General Mills was running a special--buy 20 items, save $5 (Green Giant/Muir Glenn Products)
  • Brownie Mix: B1G1 @ $2.59 - .50/2 coupon (doubled) = .80 each
  • Canned Corn: B1G1 @ $1.29 - $1.00/2 store coupon = .14 each
  • Ragu Sauce: B1G1 @ $2.19 = $1.10 each (No coupons, but it's the same price as I pay for Aldi's spaghetti sauce and this is the particular flavor I use for lasagna.) :o)
  • Knorr Sides: B1G1 @ $1.35 - .60/2 coupon = .38 each
  • Muir Glenn Tomatoes/Sauce: These weren't on sale this week and are expensive, but they were part of the General Mills special. I had three $1.00/2 store coupons which I could use in conjunction with the three $1.00/2 manufacturer's coupons I found on the large cans, so Tomatoes + Sauce = $2.39 + .89 = $3.28 - $1/2 store coupon - $1/2 manu. coupon = $1.28 for both or an average of .64 each
  • Uncle Ben's Ready Rice: $4.00/3 - $1.00/2 coupon = .83 each
  • Valley Fresh Steamers: B1G1 @ $2.39 - a variety of coupons (mostly .50 doubled) = about .19 each

Before I handed the cashier my coupons, I owed a little over $30. About the time my "Amount Owed" dropped below $11 she commented, "This is really working out well for you!" :o) Trips like this are inspirational (and fun!!!) :o) If you're interested in finding some of your own deals, check out SouthernSavers.com.

And for the record, the next generation of couponer is absolutely thrilled to have been entrusted with the responsiblity of cutting out Mommy's printable coupons! (And Mommy's happy to share the task!) :o) As her reading improves, I'll probably be able to enlist her in sorting the coupons, too!

Happy Couponing!
