On the Upward Climb

We interrupt our regular schedule with ....

construction.

Led by Uncle Bryan, whose arrival along with Aunt Janie, G&G H and Gpa M was eagerly anticipated.

So what are we "constructing"?

Well, following some demo, we're finishing two bedrooms, a full bath, a family room, a workshop, and a laundry/storage room in the basement. Wow. That's a long list. :o]

Here's a couple before pictures: This picture was taken from the laundry room area, facing the two bedrooms (to be). The central area will be family room and in this picture, the bathroom is on the left. (A few weeks ago, you would have seen a wood stove in the middle of this picture.)

In addition to the rooms, Bryan is also replacing the stairs. Here's a picture to give you some perspective. There were six different stair-heights on this original set (ranging from 6 inches to 10 inches.) I had about 4 inches of head clearance just before the landing and Chris had to duck significantly. The "landing" was very narrow. Climbing the stairs with a laundry basket required some careful contortions. (These are the stairs Matthew rolled down last week...)

They didn't last long once the crew arrived. ;o)

Other demo happened in the bedrooms the first day.

And the new stairs were top priority for day 2 ...

Along with the stairs, folks have been digging holes and cutting brick so that we can put egress windows in the bedrooms.
